So said Mathew Flinders when he entered the bay, way back in 1802. It's generally thought that the streaky appearance of the waters in the bay are caused by oils given off by the kelp that grows there.
Streaky Bay is now a coastal town on the western side of the Eyre Peninsula, in South Australia. It was officially proclaimed in 1872 as Flinders, but referred to by the locals as Streaky Bay. The name was finally changed in 1940.
There'a great variety of landscapes to see and explore in Streaky Bay and its surrounds. From farming country and almost untouched native scrubland to sandy swimming beaches, cliffs and surf beaches.
All this and more is to be experienced on a eight day adventure when you tour 'The Peninsular Coast'. For folks who want to to know where, when and how much - please go here.
