The Royal Aircraft Factory's SE5a (Scout Experimental),is just one of five extraordinary World War I aircraft on display at the Australian War Museum. Suspended from the floor, it sits in the middle of the 'Over the front:the Great War in the air' exhibition in Anzac Hall.
In the skies over the Western Front and the Middle East, young Australians fought in these machines made of wood, canvas and wire.
The large screen seen in the background shows images and film from the Memorial's collection.
This photo was taken on a Stonestreet's school excursion to Canberra and more photos from the trip can be seen here. Stonestreet's has a great selection of itineraries for school excursions, or we'd be happy to help tailor an excursion just for you.
